Free USB formatting and preparation Windows utility to make bootable USB drives. Jun 07, 2015 So I have been trying to fix my desktop these last couple of days, but I have yet to succeed, so now I'm going to ask you.Computer specs:Motherboard: Asus. I want to use Hiren's boot CD mini-xp to install the drivers for a new mobo that uses the original CPU and memory. Normally I would just revert back to the Microsoft SATA controller driver instead of the manufacturer-specific one, then just swap boards and you should be able to get in. If you are new to Easy2Boot, watch the videos, then use the Tabs at the side of this website. Start with the 'Make an E2B drive' page, then go to the 'Add Payload.
I want to use Hiren's boot CD mini-xp to install the drivers for a new mobo that uses the original CPU and memory. The old board was an Asus M4A79T Deluxe that died. I ordered an Asus M5A97 LE R2.0. I thought I would boot into safe mode and remove the old mobo drivers and then install the new drivers from the new disk. It would not boot into safe mode.

Apparently I would not be able to do what I had planned. I reasoned that I might be able to use the mini-xp program to just run the board install disk over top of the old board drivers. But I would like some input from folks with more savvy than I possess. What say you ARS brethren? How far off base am I?
I've yet to see Windows 7 NOT boot after motherboard change. As long as it's a AHCI SATA driver (not even necessarily from same manufacturer), it'll boot. I went from an ASUS to a Gigabyte back to an ASUS on one install of Windows 7. Win7 is MUCH more tolerant of motherboard moves than XP and previous.
I'd say just plop the new mobo in place and power it up. If it's going to BSOD at you, it'll likely be the 0x7b error saying that it can't find the boot device. New jersey drivers license status dropped. If that happens, you've wasted seconds of your life trying it and can continue down the path of injecting drivers. If it doesn't 0x7b on you, it'll boot and you will have saved yourself the trouble of injecting drivers. I agree that it should be doing more than it is.I can enter the UEFI BIOS but when I try to boot straight into win 7, it starts the initial splash screen and then restarts the boot process. It wont even boot into safe mode.
My primary question is: Can I install the mobo drivers from Hiren's mini-xp which does install. Or should I be considering a different approach? The system repair option which eventually comes up fails and is of no help. I am about to compare the specs of each board to see if perhaps there is some critical mismatch. I thought I had gotten the board that while an upgrade.matched closely enough to utilize the same peripherals and be a slam dunk. After I check these details.I will re post.
Update edit: The chipset is a mismatch, but I expected that. Can I edit the UEFI bios to not reboot and give me an error code? The previous chipset was. North Bridge: AMD 790 FX South Bridge: AMD SB 750 The new is. North: AMD 970 South: AMD SB950.
Is it possible I got a bad mobo even if it does boot into the BIOS? If it's immediately rebooting after the splash screen, it's the 0x7b error.
